What is Profhilo®?

Profhilo® delivers visible results in two-three sessions to improve skin tone, texture, hydration and radiance. This FDA-approved “under the skin” procedure takes just 20 minutes and uses key injection points to focus on specific areas of concern. This allows slow-release hyaluronic acid to directly stimulate collagen and elastin, significantly improving tissue quality.

It is not simply a filler – it is a new generation of safe and effective treatments that deliver dramatic improvement in tissue quality, even in challenging areas. While it is most commonly used on the face, it also helps to rejuvenate the skin on your neck, décolleté and hands. It works by stimulating activity on the dermal (deep skin) cells to counteract laxity and improve firmness.

One of the great benefits of Profhilo® is there is minimal downtime. You may be able to feel the product initially after the treatment in the injection points, however it starts to diffuse very quickly and your skin will feel softer by next day.

How does Profhilo® work?

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found extensively within our bodies in structures including the eyes, skin, joints and nervous tissue. It is constantly being broken down and replaced within our tissues, but as we age skin loses its HA content and this results in loss of tissue volume and dehydration.

Profhilo® injections are administered in a clinic setting. The skin will be thoroughly cleansed and local anaesthetic cream applied to reduce the discomfort of the injection. This is left to take effect for at least 20 minutes. There may be stinging as the filler is injected but this may be further reduced by lidocaine pre-added to the filler syringe which will result in some numbness which may persist for an hour or so.

Post-injection you may experience visible lumps and pin prick-like marks at injection sites which disappear within 24 hours. There may be a small amount of localised discolouration or bruising.

Where can Profhilo® be used? Most commonly used for facial areas, it can also effectively be used for rejuvenating then skin on your neck, décolleté and hands.

Do I need to prepare for my treatment? We recommend that you don’t drink any alcohol 24 hours before your procedure. We also ask that you don’t wear any makeup to your appointment.

Will I be suitable for Profhilo®? The treatment is aimed specifically at clients who have visible signs of ageing and there is no upper age limit. If there are deep folds present or the skin has lost elasticity, then the combination treatments with Profhilo® may be more suitable.

Why do I need more than one treatment? To achieve the best, long-lasting results we recommended a minimum of two treatments four weeks apart. Some patients may notice results within the first week, but the best outcome is visible four weeks after the second treatment. Profhilo® can be repeated again after six months if further repair is needed.

Is there any downtime following treatment? One of the great benefits of Profhilo® is there is minimal downtime. Skin should be kept clean and make-up free for 12 hours and you are advised to avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours. A second treatment is recommended one month after the first. Subsequent injections may be administered three-monthly or as required.

What are the possible side effects? Bruising and swelling is common. Rare side effects can include allergy, infection, tissue necrosis. You should not receive HA filler injections in the following circumstances: Previous allergic reaction to HA filler or gram positive bacteria. Systemic inflammatory, autoimmune or bleeding disorder. Current skin sores, rash, pimples, hives or infection. Pregnancy or breast-feeding. Under 18 years of age.
