Local anaesthetic is used to keep pain to a minimum, although the injections can sting briefly. During the treatment, you may feel warmth, pressure, pulling and movement beneath the skin.Most patients describe the procedure as tolerable rather than painful, but some sensations can feel unusual or unsettling, particularly while the treatment probe is being moved through the tissue. We will talk you through each stage, check your comfort throughout and use additional anaesthetic if needed. Afterwards, the treated area may feel tender, tight, numb and bruised for several days/weeks.

Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated, but you should usually allow between 90 minutes and two hours for your appointment. This includes consultation and preparation, carefully marking the treatment areas, administering the local anaesthetic and carrying out the procedure itself. Larger areas or combined treatments may take longer, and we will give you a more accurate idea of timing beforehand.You should arrange for someone to drive you home afterwards, as you may feel tired and swollen and should not drive yourself.

Bruising often changes colour as it fades, while swelling and numbness can take several weeks to settle fully.Most people will want to allow at least a few days away from work and social commitments, although visible swelling or bruising may last for one to two weeks and individual recovery times vary. The final result develops gradually as inflammation settles and collagen remodelling takes place.Your treatment will require you to wear a compression garment, this will be provided. Dr Julia Sen will explain how long it should be worn, including whether it needs to be worn during the day, overnight or both. The garment can feel restrictive, so it is sensible to plan a quiet recovery period and follow your personalised aftercare instructions carefully.

You may notice some initial tightening immediately after treatment, although swelling, bruising and temporary unevenness can make the early result difficult to assess. It is important to remember, this is not the finished outcome.As the swelling settles and new collagen forms, the treated area should gradually appear firmer and more defined. Changes often become easier to see from around four to six weeks, with continued improvement over the following three to six months. Results and recovery times vary, so patience is important - IgniteRF should be viewed as a gradually developing treatment rather than an instant transformation.
