Ptosis Correction

Ptosis is where the upper lid position is lower on one or both sides. It can be congenital or develop later in life, associated with trauma, contact lens wear, allergic conjunctivitis, certain medical conditions and age. It can restrict vision, may worsen during the day and is most troublesome in the evening.

Ectropion 

Lower eyelid ectropion is a condition where the lower eyelid rotates outwards. As a result it may cause watering, stickiness, foreign body sensation and redness of the exposed conjunctival inner eyelid lining. It is sometimes mistaken for conjunctivitis.

Common in later life, it can be associated with certain medical conditions or occur as a result of weakness of the facial muscles (facial palsy) or after surgery to remove lesions from the eyelid or cheek.

Entropian

The lower eyelid rotates inwards causing the eyelashes to scratch against the surface of the eye. As a result it causes a foreign body sensation, watering and stickiness of the eye and as a result is sometimes mistaken for conjunctivitis.

It is usually the result of laxity of the eyelid which becomes more common in later life and can also be associated with certain medical conditions such as obstructive sleep apnoea.

Xanthelasmata

Xanthelasmata are flat, yellowish lesions consisting of fatty deposits within the skin of the eyelids, most commonly near the inner corners of the eyes.

They can occur in adults of any age, although peak between 50 and 60. Woman are affected more commonly than men, but they are not harmful and do not cause symptoms other than cosmetic.

Treatment options include: Surgical excision, chemical peel, laser, radiofrequency, plasma and cryotherapy. Recurrence rates are reported in approximately 50% of cases. Retreatment is usually possible if this should be the case. From £600.

Cyst/Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags are small, benign growths that can be caused by friction or rubbing, genetic predisposition, hormonal changes and ageing. 

Common cysts include Chalazions (blocked meibomian gland causing a lump on the eyelid), Sebaceous (blocked sebaceous gland resulting in a small, non-cancerous bump) and Epidermoid (due to trapped keratin under the skin).

Treatment options include: Removing the skin tag with scissors or a scalpel; cutting off blood supply to the skin tag with a surgical thread; or incision and drainage. Cyst/skin tag removal: From £400.​

Plasma Ablation

A non-surgical procedure that uses a device to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin's surface through a plasma discharge. It stimulates the natural healing process, promoting collagen production'

It is particularly effective for treating delicate areas around the eyes, where the skin is thinner and more prone to sagging and wrinkles. Common applications include: Eyelid tightening to reduce drooping or sagging, and tighten loose skin and reduce the appearance of under-eye bags.
