Skin Cancer Surgery
Basal Cell Carcinoma is almost always curable if treated in a timely fashion. Surgical removal is usually recommended. If the BCC is large, recurrent after previous treatment or situated in a functionally or cosmetically sensitive area such as the eyelids, Mohs Micrographic surgery may be indicated.

Other treatment modalities include radiotherapy, cryotherapy and photodynamic therapy and chemotherapy creams but these are not usually recommended around the eye because of potential damage to the eye and/or eyelid structures.​

Mohs Surgery
Mohs Micrographic Surgery is a highly specialised technique used to treat certain types of skin cancer, particularly when located in delicate or high-risk areas such as the eyelids, nose or lips. It offers the highest cure rates for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
Following removal of the cancer, reconstruction is carried out for both function and appearance – especially important around the eyes - to achieve the best possible outcome for each patient.

Excision & Reconstruction
Excisional skin cancer surgery is typically the primary treatment for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), especially when lesions are suspicious, growing or located on the face.
Excisional biopsy and reconstruction is usually performed to remove a tumour and close the wound afterwards. This may involve rotating tissue from close by to close the gap (flap) or removing a piece of skin from somewhere else and stitching it into the wound (graft). It is usually performed under local anaesthetic.

Ptosis Correction
Ptosis is where the upper lid position is lower on one or both sides. It can be congenital or develop later in life, associated with trauma, contact lens wear, allergic conjunctivitis, certain medical conditions and age. It can restrict vision, may worsen during the day and is most troublesome in the evening.

Treatment options include (if a treatable medical cause is excluded): Correction under local anaesthetic as a day case.

Ectropion
Lower eyelid ectropion is a condition where the lower eyelid rotates outwards. As a result it may cause watering, stickiness, foreign body sensation and redness of the exposed conjunctival inner eyelid lining. It is sometimes mistaken for conjunctivitis.
Common in later life, it can be associated with certain medical conditions or occur as a result of weakness of the facial muscles (facial palsy) or after surgery to remove lesions from the eyelid or cheek.

Entropian
The lower eyelid rotates inwards causing the eyelashes to scratch against the surface of the eye. As a result it causes a foreign body sensation, watering and stickiness of the eye and as a result is sometimes mistaken for conjunctivitis.
It is usually the result of laxity of the eyelid which becomes more common in later life and can also be associated with certain medical conditions such as obstructive sleep apnoea.

Xanthelasmata
Xanthelasmata are flat, yellowish lesions consisting of fatty deposits within the skin of the eyelids, most commonly near the inner corners of the eyes.
They can occur in adults of any age, although peak between 50 and 60. Woman are affected more commonly than men, but they are not harmful and do not cause symptoms other than cosmetic.
Treatment options include: Surgical excision, chemical peel, laser, radiofrequency, plasma and cryotherapy. Recurrence rates are reported in approximately 50% of cases. Retreatment is usually possible if this should be the case. From £600.
Cyst/Skin Tag Removal
Skin tags are small, benign growths that can be caused by friction or rubbing, genetic predisposition, hormonal changes and ageing.
Common cysts include Chalazions (blocked meibomian gland causing a lump on the eyelid), Sebaceous (blocked sebaceous gland resulting in a small, non-cancerous bump) and Epidermoid (due to trapped keratin under the skin).

Treatment options include: Removing the skin tag with scissors or a scalpel; cutting off blood supply to the skin tag with a surgical thread; or incision and drainage. Cyst/skin tag removal: From £400.​
