Summer Beauty Edit: Six Essentials Worth Packing

Packing for your summer holiday always starts with the best intentions. The book you'll definitely finish and the linen dress that creases somewhere around security. And then there's the beauty bag, which should be the easy part and somehow never is.
Holidays are supposed to simplify things, yet it takes almost no effort at all to end up trying to fit a full bathroom cabinet into one small clear plastic bag. The trick is being ruthless about what actually earns its place. Skincare that stays comfortable in the heat and sun protection you can trust, along with a couple of multitaskers that give you a summer glow without hauling half a makeup bag through customs.

If you've ever decanted cleanser into an unlabelled travel bottle, forgotten what it was, and spent a week wondering whether you'd been washing your face with conditioner, this one's for you. Worn alone it gives you that "woke up looking rested" effect; worn under other makeup, it adds polish for evening. This is the one for long lunches outdoors and sightseeing days.
When sun protection is the priority but you'd still like a bit of coverage, Skin Shade Tinted Facial Sun Cream sits neatly between sunscreen and makeup. It's a lightweight, 100% mineral formula offering broad-spectrum SPF50 using zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. The tint evens out the complexion and takes the edge off redness, leaving a fresh, dewy finish rather than the chalky cast mineral sunscreens are known for. There's two adaptable shades, and you can blend it over your face and neck with your fingers - no brush or sponge required. Use it generously, and reapply every two hours or after swimming and towelling off. For poolside mornings when you can't be bothered with a full face, it does two jobs at once.
The best holiday routine is rarely the most elaborate one. Cleanse properly, keep skin hydrated and treat daily SPF as non-negotiable - applied generously, reapplied often, especially after swimming or a lot of sweating. Beyond that, a little colour, something cooling for your face, and something soothing for the evening. Your skin should come back from holiday looking as rested as you do.
Sweep the Butter Tint Lip & Cheek Balm across your lips, tap it onto the cheeks or dab it along the eyes for instant colour. Five sheer, buildable shades run from an everyday coral through delicate petal pink to a deeper burnt rouge, as subtle or as noticeable as the day calls for. Shea, mango and cocoa butters keep skin conditioned, hyaluronic acid helps with hydration, and there's SPF30 too, for your lips (reapply as you would any SPF). It's the sort of cheerful little multitasker that belongs in your handbag just as much as your suitcase.
Even with diligent sunscreen use, skin can end the day feeling warm, tight and thirsty. Aftersun isn't a fix for careless sun exposure, but it makes properly protected skin feel more comfortable once the day is done. This one combines aloe vera for moisture, chamomile-derived bisabolol to calm things down and calendula to help with any lingering redness. Apply it after a cool shower, while skin is still slightly damp, and you'll notice the difference straight away. As a top tip, keep the bottle somewhere cool for an even more refreshing application and use on shoulders, backs of legs, tops of feet - the bits that never get quite enough attention.
No need to pack five separate compacts when one will do the whole job.
